Passionate. Caring. Focused...and very funny

These are just several of the many words that can be used to describe Ann and Chris Frederick, directors of the Stretch to Win® Institute. When Ann founded her clinic in 1995, the Stretch to Win® Center, she had one key goal in mind: to improve the performance of professional athletes by changing the way they were stretched.

When the Fredericks founded the Stretch to Win Institute in 1999, they did so with the intention of passing on the complete system that had brought them so much success and that continues to rapidly and radically transform personal and professional lives.

Ann Frederick

Founder & Co-Director
Stretch to Win Institute

Ann Frederick has always had movement be an instrumental part of her life as having a mission to teach. Her passion to share her vision and knowledge can be truly felt by anyone that has ever met her.

She is a former professional dancer, having grown up in her Mom’s dance studio. She started to dance at the age of 4, first became a dance teacher at 14 and danced professionally until 35.

Ann graduated from ASU in 1997, where she conducted scientific research that demonstrated more successful outcomes with her technique compared to traditional static stretching (read original thesis here). Ann originally created her unique system of assisted, movement based stretching called Stretch to Win® - Fascial Stretch Therapy™ (or FST) for the USA Men’s Olympic Wrestling Team of 1996.

Besides improving professional athletic performance, she soon discovered that FST also rapidly helped other clients with a variety of chronic, unresponsive pain conditions, strength imbalances and other common neuromusculoskeletal disorders.

She has devoted her life’s work to always evolving her technique and expanding the possibilities of it’s potential to help as many lives as possible. Ann has pursued her life path of teaching and mentoring with love for 45 years. She has inspired and motivated thousands of her students to successfully follow their own life path with newly found confidence and skills gained in hands-on training with Ann and her amazing team of teachers.

In 2017, she completed clinical research in conjunction with University of Arizona Medical School on Chronic Non- Specific Low Back Pain and Fascial Stretch Therapy with with proven scientifically significant outcomes. Read the study abstract here.

Ann is a founding member of the Fascia Research Society.

Chris Frederick

Stretch to Win Institute

Chris Frederick has been a practicing physical therapist since 1989, focusing on manual therapy, FST and corrective movement and exercise. After training privately with Ann in 1998, he helped evolve FST as an effective manual therapy and movement re-education system that improved outcomes with many common medical diagnoses faster and more effectively than traditional physical therapy. Chris has an extensive background in dance, both as a professional dancer of classical ballet, as well as being a specialist in dance physical therapy. Chris is also well versed in the ancient movement and healing arts of tai chi and qigong.

He is an author of the chapters and other contributions in the following books, most published in 2020:

  • Fascia: The Tensional Network of the Human Body – 2nd edition by Robert Schleip et al.
  • Fascia in Sport and Movement – 2nd edition edited by Robert Schleip and Amanda Baker.
  • Fascia, Function and Medical Application edited by David Lesondak and Angeli Maun Akey.
  • Everything Moves: how biotensegrity informs human movement by Susan Lowell de Solórzano
  • NASM Corrective Exercise Specialization by the staff of the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
  • Foundations of Professional Personal Training – 2nd edition for the Canadian Fitness Professionals (canfitpro) edited by Rod Macdonald

Chris is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and is a founding member of the Fascia Research Society.

Frederick's and the Institute

The Fredericks are the authors of the popular books “Stretch to Win” and “Fascial Stretch Therapy”, both in their second edition. Ann and Chris directed their own highly successful center of services that included Fascial Stretch Therapy, physical therapy, Anatomy Trains® Structural Integration, sports massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine and Pilates from 1995 - 2012.

They are now Directors of the Stretch to Win® Institute founded in 1999, where they offer certification-training workshops in Fascial Stretch Therapy and LifeStretch®. More than just the original thought leaders that helped start the entire stretch industry, the Fredericks are an outgoing, caring and incredibly knowledgeable couple who are passionate about sharing their vast knowledge in a fun and highly informative hands-on environment.

In 2020, the Fredericks were put on a multi year retainer to be subject matter experts in stretching and flexibility for the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

About the Stretch to Win Institute

Founded in 1995, the Institute has established itself as the gold standard of training and instruction in the science and practice of stretching for professionals in health, wellness, fitness, sports, physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Using evidenced informed science combined with decades experience of practice based evidence, founders Ann and Chris Frederick direct, teach and inspire their students with patience, deep understanding and contagious humor in their hands-on, live workshops.

Learning is maximized in small groups limited to only 6 partner-paired students. A teacher for each group will mentor 3 students while the other 3 get stretched. Each student gets the opportunity to be stretched by the teacher and then gets to practice on the teacher before they practice on other students.

A unique learning environment like this is rare in the industry and we feel, is the only way to develop high level skills and confidence to apply our training and get superior outcomes.

Our core workshops in Fascial Stretch Therapy™ (FST™) are all hands-on, intense, fun courses where everyone ends up hanging out together in our huge kitchen during breaks and lunch. Many inevitably socialize and develop deep personal and business bonds and friendships that last long after class ends.

When you graduate and receive your certification, we continue our relationship with you with a robust website where you have all the ongoing support you need to get online learning, join forums, ask questions, access marketing material and much more.
