General Questions

  • Is private training offered?
    • Not at this time.
  • Can pregnant women attend a workshop?
    • Yes; however, only those who are medically cleared may register.

  • Is a background in anatomy required to take a workshop?
    • Yes. If you lack knowledge of anatomy, we recommend this app, Complete Anatomy, as well as the Anatomy Trains book by Tom Myers:
      Amazon.com
      Amazon.ca

  • Do students have to be currently practicing in their profession to take a workshop?
    • No. Students may still take a workshop if they have prior certifications or licenses and are not currently practicing.
  • Can registration be completed by phone?
    • No. Registrations must be completed online through the website.
  • Can students “hold” a spot and register later?
    • No. Since workshops sell out far in advance, this is not an option.

  • Can students register and then put down a deposit or pay later?
    • No. 1/4 (one quarter) of the full tuition is due upon registration.
  • If a workshop is sold out is there a waiting list?
    • Yes. Once a workshop is sold out, an online waiting list will appear on the event calendar.
  • Can FST™ be done as a stand-alone therapy?
    • Yes. Many former graduates have built practices designed around FST, while others have incorporated it into their current practices.
  • What is the difference between FST™ and Myofascial Release?
    • As stated by John Barnes, PT, one of the originators of myofascial release, “Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.” (http://www.myofascialrelease.com).

FST is a very different approach developed by Ann and Chris Frederick. Stretch to Win’s Fascial Stretch Therapy is a neuromyofascial manual therapy that focuses on the connective tissue system rather than isolated muscle treatment. We assess passive, active and resisted movements in functional positions as well as on the treatment table. The approach starts with assessment and treatment where needed at the deepest part of the connective tissue system - the joint capsule. It progresses through all the layers of fascia, ending with the superficial layer. Where the central or peripheral nervous system is restricted or not optimal in movement, proper neural mechanics is restored. Muscles that were inhibited are activated while those that are over activated are normalized. Finally, a home program prescription follows so that the client/patient becomes an active partner on their journey to wellness or sport performance.

Recertification

  • What is Recertification
    • * Recertification is an online program you are eligible for once a live workshop has been taken. A live workshop certification is good for 2 years. When you have reached the 2 year mark, you may:

      1. Recertify online at your current level – Certification good for 2 years from date of completion.
      2. Recertify by repeating a live workshop (50% off, contact us for a discount code) at your current level – Certification good for 2 years from date of completion.
      3. Complete a higher-level, live workshop in lieu of re-certifying at your current level – Certification is good for 2 years from date of completion.

      * Practitioners whose last FST certification, or recertification was five years ago, or more, are not eligible for online re-certification. You must register for and attend a live FST certification workshop at current certification level or the next level up. A 50% off discount is available to repeat your current level only. No discounts are available to attend a higher level. Please submit a contact form for more information.
  • What if I don't re-certify?
    • A practitioner who does not maintain their certification is considered to have an expired certification. An expired certification indicates that a practitioner is not current in their training and not in compliance with Institute policy. Therefore the practitioner will be removed from our website Directory and Membership indefinitely or until such time that practitioner is reinstated by *recertification, or takes in-person, the next higher level certification course.

After a certification expires, the practitioner may not state or otherwise imply verbally, online, or in any communication that they are currently certified in Fascial Stretch Therapy. Nor, may they use any FST marks, photos, videos, logos or any other proprietary Stretch to Win FST material, whether or not they were previously permitted to do so, which could mislead the public into thinking that practitioner is certified. However, as long as they do not mislead or misinform the public or other professionals that they are currently certified in FST, they may state that they were trained in FST or were formerly certified in FST.

A practitioner who does not maintain their certification may continue to practice FST with clients and patients as long as they do not misrepresent themselves as being currently certified in FST.
