Healthcare in the USA has been broken for years and is getting worse. The unabating rise in the co-morbidity of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and obesity is familiar to most. However, when paired with a federal report that stated in 2021, U.S. life expectancy at birth was at its lowest level since 1996, it drives the point even deeper that something must be done to reverse this path of destroying lives.
Many of you, your clients and others no longer depend on our failing system and instead pay money out of pocket for what is more commonly known today as preventative and functional medicine. This is happening at ever increasing rates because it simply works much better than conventional medicine alone.
One example is from coeditor Angeli Maun Akey, MD of the 2020 book, “Fascia, Function, and Medical Applications”. She stated in the Preface that conventional medicine failed to adequately treat her son. After physicians conducted tests to rule out suspected causes of his symptoms that prompted two visits to the emergency room, they concluded that he had anxiety and was sent home. Still suffering from intermittent left sided chest pain, Dr. Akey brought her son to see (her future fellow editor) David Lesondak, a specialist in treating fascia. He easily determined that the pain was fascial in origin and within a few weeks of treatment, the pain completely dissipated.
The book that Lesondak and Akey edited is a pioneering effort to increase awareness of the public and professionals about physicians, clinicians, therapists, surgeons, dissectors, and researchers that are moving healthcare toward more a more effective, compassionate, inclusive, fiscally responsible, and sustainable model. Frederick Stretch Therapy™ (aka FST) is recognized in that book as one of those essential elements in treating and caring for the whole person.
The NICCH (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health) at the NIH (National Institutes of Health) established a 5-year strategic plan last year that is based on this new model of healthcare they call “Whole Person Health”. This plan will tactically address all known factors contributing to increasing the lifespan and improving the healthspan of Americans. We see FST being a very important strong co-contributor to this vision for a healthier, happier, longer-lived population.
To meet the goal of having the best trained practitioner of FST be a part of this new paradigm shift, we are in the planning stages of producing an expansion of FST training and service called “Fascianetics™”.
Currently a work in progress, the Fascianetics program of training will educate the FST practitioner on how to be even more effective and impactful to their clients, patients, and communities. Whether working in a solitary practice, with partners or within a functional medical business, the Fascianetics Specialist™ will have not only more advanced technical skills in FST but other complementary and adjunctive abilities and credentials. Rounding off your training to truly treat and care for the whole person – body, mind, and spirit – will help dig your roots even deeper even as you reach ever higher for the stars. You will experience more personal treatment from the training for your own self-care, as well as the ultimate satisfaction of achieving a major milestone on your FST journey. More will certainly be forthcoming about this exciting vision and mission for the Stretch to Win Institute and the future of our FST Family!
