Stretch to Win Programs: Stretches for Prolonged Sitting

As the pandemic continues to evolve, we are all still trying to adapt. Spending much more time online, many are suffering poor posture, tightness, stiffness and pain. I created this stretch program over 20 years ago for my patients working at desktops who suffered from a variety of conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome and disc herniation...all from sitting. Do this program to prevent problems, help current ones and even to feel more alert and better prepared to sit down and work...enjoy!

Sitting too long can easily progress to any or all of the following pain conditions:

  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Wrist pain
  • Upper back pain
  • Other pain

An example of how minor pain can slowly transform into something far worse is what happens to your low back from sitting:

  • Pain usually starts as an ache or stiffness
  • Over time progresses to pain
  • Discs are more prone to bulge and herniate; once one starts, more will follow
  • Herniated discs are dangerous:
    • Often incapacitating and severely painful when acute
    • Will force you offline in a jiffy as sitting becomes intolerable
    • Can lead to permanent nerve damage and functional disability if ignored
    • Often leads to surgery

Ever since the pandemic crisis started, I wanted to give back something to those whose lives have been disrupted.
